Check into Eco wood treatment to preserve untreated wood. I have been using this non chemical wood treatment on the outside of by beehives for a couple of years. It is made from natural minerals that causes the wood to turn that silver patina color and preserves the wood.

Thank you very much we had fun making them Eric.
I will look to see if I still have our designs with measurements. We just took graphing paper and drew up a couple of designs and then had to figure out what size pipe and what fittings to use. But let me see if I still have it in with all my gardening files someplace :o)

I've started using old stock water tanks. I use ones that are well rusted.

I made a lot of mine out of "free" retaining wall blocks & cinder blocks. The cinder blocks actually give me two growing areas inside the whole unit & the holes.

I'm really starting to like the idea of using center blocks because you can easily move your beds anywhere and they don't break down like the wood beds:)

My raised beds are untreated cedar. I throw a tarp over them in winter to help preserve the cedar longer.

I did that, when we moved off the 1.25 acre place I took the majority of my retaining wall blocks & all my cinder block beds with me. Looking back I should have taken them all since the people who bought the place never did a garden. Then I would have more raised beds here too!!

Use 10 layers of newspaper in the bottom of your beds. It will keep the weeds out without having to use plastic.

I agree with molly! You can also use cardboard:) I wish I did because I keep getting crab grass runners in my garden beds!

Something like this but I would do cardboard and news papers B)
