TOPIC: Sweet Feed

Sweet Feed 15 Jun 2014 14:32 #1590

I ran out of chicken feed and the feed store is closed.
I have some sweet feed on hand, is it okay to feed it to my chickens?
Should I soak it first?
Thanks,
offgridhermit

Not sure what sweet feed is. I wish I knew the answer for you here.

Sweet feed is usually given to horses, goats, pigs and cattle. It's grains rolled in molasses.

Looking around on the web I found people that have used the sweet feed in a pinch. But most say not to over feed the sweet feed because it is high in calories.
Do you know what percent of protein is in the feed??
Also Some use it as a treat for the chickens.

You can feed them sweet feed just fine:) I think 15 to 16% of the sweet feed is protein in most blends. Just don't over feed them on the stuff.
