Chicken Treat - Pine Cone Treat

Just another great chicken treat to make for your chickens.  This is a project I did when I was a kid for birds.  Make sure the pine cone you use is not from a store and chemical free.  Preferably get one from the great out doors!  Get the kids to help.  Get the materials, and get ready to make a quick and simple treat for your loved chickens.  This will drive them nuts and it will be healthy for them and you!! Yes, healthy for you!  We use ALL the chickens manure in our garden.  That is why we feed our girls as much organic foods as we can!  All organic chicken manure, all organic garden :)

Lets take a look at how to make this fun and healthy chicken treat!  These are the items you will need for this project.

ITEMS NEEDED

  • Pine cones
  • Scissors
  • Twine or string
  • Organic chicken scratch
  • Organic peanut butter
  • Butter knife
  • Shallow plate

I recommend to set up a work area outside to do this project.
First free the pine of any thorns with your scissors before you have the kids help!   This will keep little hands safe from getting pricked or poked.

Next, take the scratch mix and pour it out on the shallow plate.  Now use the butter knife to spread the organic peanut butter evenly onto the pine cone.  Once you're satisfied with the spread of peanut butter, take the pine cone now and roll it in the organic chicken scratch mix.  You can push this mixture in with your hands as you roll it.  Really pack on the scratch mix!  Now tie the twine around the top of the pine cone.  I recommend putting it in a dry area so that the pine cone and the peanut butter can dry and harden a bit. About 24 hours or more.

When done, hang it in the chicken coop or any place they can reach and enjoy watching your chickens peck at it.

Thank you for letting me share.

Like always God Bless!
